Plant Taxa Identification

We integrated a comprehensive plant genome database and identified 32 potential plant taxa (Family to Class level) from metagenomic data.

Methodology The identification was performed using advanced metagenomic analysis techniques that allow detection of plant DNA fragments in soil samples, providing insights into historical and contemporary vegetation patterns.

The identified plant taxa represent a diverse range of Arctic and sub-Arctic vegetation, including woody plants, herbaceous species, and cryptogams that are characteristic of Greenlandic ecosystems.

These plant-derived DNA signatures provide valuable information about:

  • Historical vegetation changes in response to climate fluctuations
  • Current plant community composition and diversity
  • Potential plant-fungal symbiotic relationships
  • Carbon input sources to soil organic matter pools
