Using antiSMASH, we identified 14,592 biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) across 3,600 MAGs, encompassing seven major BGC classes. The most abundant classes were NRPS, constituting 25.36% of the total, followed by terpene-related at 21.25%.
The phyla rich in BGC included Myxococcota (~6 BGCs per genome) and Cyanobacteria (~5 BGCs per genome). BiG-SCAPE analysis clustered 6,165 BGCs into 1,761 gene cluster families and 8,427 singletons. Notably, the majority (99.3%) of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) did not cluster with reference BGCs from the MIBiG database, and 99.5% remained unclustered with BGCs from the global metagenomic BGC Atlas. This suggests a vast reservoir of untapped BGC diversity in Greenlandic soils, highlighting their potential as a unique source of novel bioactive compounds.
